Summary Response Essay Example

Summary Response Essay ExampleIn this article I will present a summary response essay example that you can use to help you enhance your own writing skills. This is a good example because it addresses both the pros and cons of an argument with supporting facts and figures. The author, Mr. Gilbert, was a resident of Massachusetts who had a long and stressful day. On his way home from work he got lost and ended up on a secluded stretch of road. As he was sitting there waiting for a tow truck, the police pulled him over for an expired registration tag and then confiscated his car.Although the police officer on the scene was sympathetic, he quickly became irritated because Mr. Gilbert hadn't offered the police officer a bribe to let him go so easily. He informed Mr. Gilbert that he would be arrested for being late to work because he had failed to stop at a sign before he left work. Then the police officer asked Mr. Gilbert for identification.Unfortunately, that is when Mr. Gilbert made the mistake of giving the anonymous officer his name and address. He gave the police officer his full name and address and didn't even bother to tell the officer his middle name. He put his name and address in a cell phone book. Mr. Gilbert, who also happened to be a native English speaker, could easily have explained that he was a lawyer in the state of Massachusetts. After Mr. Gilbert was arrested, the police officer asked him what he was going to do next. He responded that he was going to call his attorney and try to get out of the ticket. He also added that he would probably get a more lenient deal in a plea bargain. So the police officer tried to get Mr. Gilbert to stop what he was doing, get his identification and get out of the car. Mr. Gilbert explained that he could only go so far before he would have to stop. He then added that he was on a break from law school and didn't know what he was doing. He tried to explain that he only wanted to go about ten miles from home but the pol ice officer told him to just get in the car and drive away. So, the officer finally was able to make his way through the area to where Mr. Gilbert was going to pick him up. Once he got there, he waited for Mr. Gilbert to come back into the parking lot. After a while, the officer was frustrated with the fact that Mr. Gilbert wasn't there. When he eventually called the person who was supposed to pick him up, the person told the officer that Mr. Gilbert had not showed up.It's all well and good that the police officer's job was to protect people from crime. But when he tried to make a decision based on some arbitrary orders and rules and regulations that he had invented on the spot, the end result was a debacle. Even if the police officer had followed the rules and laws and had followed the procedures that were necessary, the end result was a bad situation that was caused by poor judgment and lack of experience.
